Just a Quick Thought February 10, 2009

One thing I don’t understand about people is how many of them refuse to recycle when they have the ability to do so with minimal effort. Is it because they are too lazy or apathetic to do the right thing? Or is just out of sheer spite and contempt toward their fellow human beings, their children, and to God?

This question came about because I emailed our mayor’s office to ask why our city has not implemented a curbside recycling program. Southaven has a population of around 55-60K and its current program consists of a few marked dumpsters scattered around the city for paper and metal (but curiously no plastics). I dutifully recycle all that I can, which has decreased our garbage output to only about 1/2 of our receptacle each week, and I can’t help but notice the large amounts of trash coming from those around us and wonder if they would participate in the program if it were more convenient. I’ll let you know what the mayor’s office has to say about it.

I figure that it’s just pure hatred of God. I figure it’s probably a good idea for you to go around to your neighbors on trash day and yell at them, “WHY DO YOU HATE GOD SO MUCH!?!”

How about if we say God’s creation instead of God, Itself. That’s what I actually meant.

But I bet your method would get some people’s attention, Smokey…

We re-use trash around here to mark the sides of the roads.

Well…at least it’s being used…

Does Beebe still have a recycling pick-up program in town? I know they used to have one.

I think Beebe recycles lots of old pick-ups.
