From Cat’s Cradle:
And I remembered The Fourteenth Book of Bokonon, which I had read in its entirety the night before. The Fourteenth Book is entitled, “What Can a Thoughtful Man Hope for Mankind on Earth, Given the Experience of the Past Million Years?”
It doesn’t take long to read The Fourteenth Book. It consists of one word and a period.
This is it:
“Nothing.”

A nation is a group of people united by a mistaken view of the past and a hatred of their neighbors.

Love your enemies is probably the most radical thing Jesus ever said, unless of course one considers the parable of the Samaritan. There the admonition is to let your enemies love you.

Is there a worse person in the world than Pat Robertson?
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that the man who blamed Katrina and 9/11 on gays and homosexuals, would have some more insanely stupid comments about the earthquake in Haiti, but low and behold, he has crawled out of his hole and spoken again.
They were under the heel of the French, you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they go together and swore a pact to the devil. they said ‘We will serve you if you will get us free from the prince.’ True story. And so the devil said, ‘Ok it’s a deal. And they kicked the French out. the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after another.
Yep, there’s nothing like blaming an indigenous people for suffering a terrible natural disaster. That’s really classy.
