Why, you ask? Because they are making Mississippi public schools look good and reasonable.

This week, the Texas state Board of Education, whose members are elected by the general public, is poised to vote on new social study curriculum standards that have a large shift to the Right.

Conservative Texas lawyer Cynthia Noland, who home schools her own children and describes the notion of sending them to public schools as “throwing them into the enemy’s flame,” says that they new standards “promote patriotism.”

The new language added to the standards describe the Founding Fathers as being guided by Christian principles, and include overtly positive references to the Moral Majority, the NRA, and the GOP’s Contract with America. Other amendments include minimizing Thomas Jefferson’s role in history because he advocated the separation of church and state, requiring that children learn about the “unintended consequences” of affirmative action, stressing the right “to keep and bear arms,” and rename the slave trade to the “Atlantic triangular trade.”

Could someone explain to me again why we don’t want Texas to secede?
