As you know, I listen to a wide variety of music, from hard rock to country to hip-hop, and there have been some great albums released so far this year, but there may not be anything as weird and wonderful as the latest from experimental rap group Shabazz Palaces. Enjoy.

One of the more interesting bands to emerge over the past few years is the harmony-driven folk rock group, Fleet Foxes. Their debut was a beautiful work and their latest, Helplessness Blues, continues in that vein in a wonder way. Here are few of the new songs. Enjoy.

The wait is finally over. This week the Beastie Boys finally released their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, and let me tell you, it is great. If you’re looking for some good, old-school fun, this is my favorite Beasties album since probably Ill Communication. Check out the video for Make Some Noise below and I bet you’ll agree. Enjoy.
P.S. This is the coolest music video I’ve seen in a long time.

2010 was another great year for music, but there was one song in particular that really stuck out to me. I can’t say enough to praise Kanye West’s vision and talent and nowhere else was that more evident than in this 30 minute extended video of the incredible “Runaway.” Enjoy.

According to this article on Yahoo, today marks the 19 year anniversary of the release of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit single/video. Wow, it’s hard to believe that it’s been that long ago, but I remember being a young teenager when this song first hit the airwaves and it just completely changed everything. I’m sure I’ll write more about it next year on the 20th anniversary of one of the greatest years in the history of rock music, but for now, here’s the video.

I’ve been so glad over the past couple of years to see Robert Plant, of Led Zeppelin fame, reemerge as a force in the world of music. His attraction to folk/roots music has been well known for a long time and, though there are several Zeppelin songs that reflect that love, his most recent work has finally shown his full immersion in the style. His latest album, Band of Joy, is excellent and you can stream the entire thing on NPR until September 14 when the album is released for sale. You should definitely listen to it when you can. As a warm up, here is the first single from the work, Angel Dance. Enjoy.
